What a good AMC looks like — and what to watch for

The AMC market in India varies widely. A visit that lubricates a rail and leaves is not maintenance of a data-destruction device. Use these as the questions to ask any provider, ours included:

Does the visit include a field-strength verification with a calibrated instrument, or only a functional test?
Do I get a written certificate with the readings against the machine's specification?
Is capacitor bank health assessed and reported, with a life estimate?
Is the interlock and safety function re-verified, and recorded?
What is the response commitment in writing, and does it differ by location?
Are spares held in India, and which ones?
Is operator training included, with records issued?
Do I get a written report with findings rather than a signature on a sheet?

Indicative AMC cost

Expect roughly 8–12% of machine value per year in India. The variation comes from:

Model tier. NSA-listed machines cost more to verify properly, so their AMC sits at the higher end.
Response commitment. A next-working-day metro commitment costs more than a scheduled quarterly visit.
Visit frequency. Half-yearly verification doubles the visit cost of annual-only.
Location. Outstation and tier-2 visits carry travel cost, usually passed through at cost.
Machine count. Multiple units at one site are usually cheaper per machine.

Is an AMC really necessary?

If your records depend on the machine having actually delivered the field, yes. A degausser's capacitors degrade over time; the machine can still complete a cycle and still report success while the field has dropped. Periodic field-strength verification is the control that keeps the destruction records truthful.

Is a third-party AMC acceptable?

Technically yes, but ask what the AMC actually verifies. An annual clean-and-lubricate visit is not the same as a field-strength verification with a certificate. The value of an AMC here is the verification record, not the servicing.

What is the response commitment?

It depends on location and the tier you buy. Metro locations typically get next-working-day response; outstation and tier-2 locations are scheduled visits with engineer dispatch arranged as required. We will put the commitment in writing.

We do, on a case-by-case basis, provided the machine is a Proton unit in the supported range. Send us the model and serial number.
