Degausser Price in India — What Drives the Cost

1. What actually moves the cost of a degausser in India

These are the levers, roughly in order of impact. Knowing them is how you spend your specification effort in the right place.

1. Field strength and listing. The step from a 1 Tesla DoD-compliant machine to a 2 Tesla NSA-listed machine is the single largest step in the range. You are paying for verified performance and the documentation that comes with it.
2. Cycle time and throughput. Sub-5 seconds (T-1.5) against 20 seconds (T-1) is a four-fold throughput difference. If you process volume, the faster machine frequently pays for itself on operator labour alone.
3. Field verification hardware. The T-4's internal Gaussmeter and the T-5's digital cycle counter save you buying a separate gaussmeter and running a re-certification programme — a saving that is easy to miss when comparing two quotations.
4. Power configuration. 12 V battery operation on the T-4, and universal versus fixed-voltage builds, both affect the number.
5. Accessories and deployment. A rugged wheeled deployment case, a mobility cart or a rack-mount kit are real additions, though small relative to the machine.
6. Warranty term and AMC. A longer warranty or a multi-year AMC bought at order time is cheaper than adding it later.
7. Freight, insurance and installation. Significant for a machine moving to a tier-2 city. We include these in the quotation so there is no surprise on the invoice.
8. GST. Shown separately. Input tax credit may be available to your organisation.

2. Cost per drive, not cost per machine

Buyers should look past the machine price. The number that matters is the fully loaded cost of one sanitised drive:

• Machine amortisation divided by expected life (commonly 5–7 years).
• Operator time per drive — load, cycle, unload, log, move to crusher.
• AMC per drive at your volume.
• Scrap value and disposal cost of the destroyed media.
• Audit and re-certification cost if you skip field verification.

3. Ways to reduce the outlay without compromising the process

• Size to real volume, not to peak anxiety. A machine for 15 drives a month is idle capital. Buy throughput you will use.
• Skip the NSA listing if nothing requires it. If no tender, customer or parent policy names it, a DoD-compliant machine meets NIST 800-88 purge and costs materially less.
• Bundle the cell. A degausser with crusher and shredder is priced as a system more often than as three separate purchases, with one warranty contact.
• Rent instead of buy for one-off work. Project, audit or peak-quarter requirements do not need capital equipment. See degausser rental.
• Outsource the run, not the machine. If you need evidence rather than an asset, an on-site destruction service produces a signed register with no capital outlay.
• Ask for a multi-year AMC at order time. It is consistently cheaper than adding it in year two.

4. How to get a quotation that is actually comparable

When you compare quotations from different suppliers, make sure each one answers the same questions. Ask for:

1. Exact model and model code, not "a 2 Tesla degausser".
2. The field strength, and how field strength is verified per cycle.
3. Cycle time, and your real throughput including load, unload and logging.
4. What is included — freight, installation, commissioning, operator training, test certificate.
5. Warranty term, and the AMC scope with a written response commitment.
6. Which spares are held in India, and the expected response time.
7. GST shown separately on the invoice.
8. The written lead time against your required date.
